Anael Alston, Ed.D.
I help students and families understand the unwritten rules that shape who gets access to America’s most competitive educational opportunities.
For more than 30 years, I’ve helped young people turn potential into opportunity, serving as a teacher, award-winning principal, superintendent, and New York State Assistant Commissioner of Education.
My own journey from Brooklyn public schools to Hofstra, Columbia University, and Harvard taught me something important: talent matters, but so does knowing how to navigate the system.
I created this masterclass about 10 years ago and have helped nearly 2000 young people get into their dream college: thank you for helping me with my mission.
STILL GOT QUESTIONS?
Frequently Asked Questions
Will this work if I'm a weak writer?
Yes. The course is designed for students who don’t consider themselves writers. The exercises translate experiences into powerful prose—step by step.
How much time will the course take?
Most students complete the lessons and draft their essay in 7–10 days. Because it’s self-paced, you can binge it in a weekend or spread it over a month.
Is there personalized feedback?
Elite College Essay does not include individualized review, editing, or feedback on your student’s college essay. However, Signature Plus members can participate in live group Q&A sessions with Dr. A, where you may ask questions about the college essay process as well as questions related to your student’s specific college admissions situation. The Q&A is designed to provide guidance, clarity, and strategy, while ensuring that the student remains the author of their own essay.
